Last year while abroad in Australia, I had the opportunity to visit Bali, which is one of the most incredible, cultural places I’ve ever experienced. Lately, so many people have been visiting or planning trips to Bali and have asked for recommendations so I thought I’d share!
RESTAURANTS
Motel Mexicola: (Pictured above) Mexican, dinner restaurant. Amazing decor, great food, and turns into a party later on into the night!
Bikini: Insane food and extremely reasonable (most places in Bali are!) Very cool atmosphere. Go for dinner & make a res. Get all the little bites, mhmm.
Sisterfields: We actually ate brunch here everyday in Bali…it’s just that good. Go before heading over to a beach club and get some Avo Toast!
Sea Circus: Also, another amazing brunch stop. It’s right next to Bodyworks Spa so head over after a relaxing massage!
Potato Head Beach Club: Potato Head is an amazing beach club and restaurant! Go early, at 11 AM when they open and get free lounge beds where you can order amazing cocktails (they’ll even put them into fresh coconuts for you!) and food. It’s a serious vibe towards the end of the day, with amazing views for sunset hour!
DAY TRIPS
When going on day trips in Bali, it is important to hire a driver from recommendations. Feel free to contact me if you’d like our driver’s information!
Trip Advisor offers an amazing day trip to Ubud with a personal driver. It’s very reasonably priced and the driver takes you on an incredible, cultural day trip to Ubud. First, you get to tour three villages – jewelry, clothing, and art villages and you get to see how everything is made. You can purchase amazing gifts for your family at the villages! On our trip we visited a local healer, who sat down with each of us privately. Next, we moved on to a waterfall sighting (pictured above), a view of the rice fields from a hanging swing, a tour of the temples, and a trip to the infamous monkey forrest! Be careful, those monkeys are wild. We toured a coffee plantation where we got to taste 15-20 amazing teas and coffees. We even had lunch on Mount Batur next to an active volcano! It’s a lot packed into one day but it is seriously the best way to do Ubud if you’re not staying there!
Another day trip we went on was to see Kelingking Beach and Nusa Penida Beach. I HIGHLY recommend going to Kelingking. Forget the Grand Canyon…this is seriously a world wonder.
Unfortunately, we were unable to go to Uluwatu, which is a small surfer town in Bali that I’ve heard amazing things about. If you are going to Uluwatu, be sure to go to Single Fin Beach Club and Blue Point Bay!
TIPS
DO NOT. I repeat…DO NOT drink the tap water. You will get Bali Belly and it will not feel good. Don’t even brush your teeth with it.
Be careful what foods you ingest. Sometimes the fruit and veggies might be washed in the tap water and you can get Bali Belly that way. Try to only eat cooked vegetables and stay away from fruits, aside from those you can peel such as bananas.
Watch out for your belongings in public places.
Stay in a Villa with Security (especially if you are just girls!)
Go shopping. A lot of brands that we buy in America are actually made in Bali, so everything will be cheaper! The bikinis, especially. Seminyak square has great shopping and if you walk up the main streets you’re bound to see amazing shops.
Learn about and respect the culture! Hinduism is the main religion practiced in Bali and every morning people leave offerings outside on the street or in front of their homes for their Dietes. The offerings are usually made of flowers, some candies, even an occasional cigarette. Don’t touch them – just admire their beauty.
ENJOY. Stay in the moment. Dance. Eat. Do yoga. Skinny dip. Take photos. Tan. Writing this post is making me nostalgic to be walking the streets of Seminyak, don’t take one second for granted!
